Location: Head Office – Auckland.
Background: From the age of 13 I was drawn to the world of print – mainly through family. And since then have worked through the introduction of photo typesetting, and then as the world sped up with the introduction of Apple Macs back in 1987. After the humble pencil, the computer is arguably the single most significant design tool in today’s environment. I went on to teach at a Polytechnic for a number of years, then moved into IT working with Mac-based graphic design software for five years.
What I do: Considered the ‘go to’ guy for all things production, my vast experience in print production means I have the expertise and know-how to achieve very high standards and help produce award-winning displays. I’m often working alongside designers, ad agencies, account managers and our sales team advising on technical aspects of the job, helping with artwork creation and working through product specifications.
At Exhibit Group, I have been involved directly in the rise and development of wide-format printing. Even late into the 1990′s, display panels were produced by photographic process in darkrooms. Today, we are printing with technically advanced eight and ten colour printers that continually push the boundaries of image quality and achievable colour gamut.
My commitment is to the faithful reproduction of what began as an idea, has been shaped by design process and finds expression and ultimately communication through ink going onto print media. The idea is the same as when I was 13, but the tools we have available today allow designers to push further, expect more and ultimately for the communication of an idea to be more effective. The execution of that remains my daily motivation and challenge.
Time at Exhibit Group: Over 10 years.
